She also likes hanging out with her friends from school, especially her new boyfriend, whom she blushes over as she says he is "hot."
"She was so excited when she got up this morning," Jamie said. "She just kept saying, 'Mom, do you know what today is? Do you know what today is?' "
Megan is able to care for herself and should be able to live on her own in a group setting when she is an adult, Jamie said. She likes to ride her bike around the neighborhood and play at the park with her friends. But it's opportunities like Special Olympics that have kept the teenager believing in herself.
Megan went to Franklin for middle school and now West to get the extra attention she needed with life skills, Jamie said, where along with the standard reading, writing, math, art and music, Megan is taught the basic tasks she'll need as an adult.
Deep down, though, Megan knew there was no way her family was missing her biggest day of the year. Mom, dad, nana and papa have never missed her games in the five plus years the 16 year old has been participating.
"It makes them feel like you and I," Radnoti said. "They can compete and train at whatever level they choose. This is the one day these kids get the chance to compete."

For Megan, whose doctors have never been able to pinpoint what caused her cognitive delays, it's mostly about having fun. But it's also about doing her very best.
Megan was just one of the more than 300 cognitively challenged kids from more than 30 schools around Weld County who participated in the annual event held at District 6 Stadium. The event takes more than 150 volunteers, said organizer Jan Radnoti.
