Reduced Visibilities This Afternoon
We are experiencing a windy day today in Siouxland, and more wintry weather is on the way. In the snapshot above, you will notice a good portion of South and North Dakota and Montanashaded in blue ( Winter Storm Watch). An area of low pressure is strengthening and moving south and east toward Siouxland. As it picks up moisture from the Gulf and combines with the colder air, we will see the chance for widepread snow over the weekend. Areas of western Siouxland will start to see snow most likely on Saturday into Saturday evening and snow will spread east and southeast. It does look at this time that the western/southwestern areas of Siouxland will have the greatest accumulations. Snow accumulations are not expected to be heavy in a short period of time, but through the entire duration of the event which will be from Saturday through Monday. I have to say, I may get the chance to build my snow fort that I have been waiting for!
Snow that is developing over the Dakotas, could give us some snow accumulation right here in Siouxland. It also going to really cool things down. By 8 am tomorrow, you can see below that the low pressure area will be to our southeast but some light snow will be a possibility still.
that are in the WIND CHILL ADVISORY. A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate very wind chills 20 to 30 below zero. This will result in frost bite or even worse, hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
Cold air moves in for the weekend thanks to these winds and some of us could be dealing with a healthy amount of snow falling from Sunday all the way through Monday night. I will have more on that in an upcoming blog in just a little while. You can also see the latest on KTIV News Channel 4 at 5, Nike Dri Fit Jacket For Women
Stay tuned to KTIVfor updates on the approaching storm!
Part of the problem is that the snow will not have much moisture in it meaning it will be fluffy and can pile up pretty easily as a result. Some models are showing about half an inch of liquid moisture falling during the two day stretch of Sunday and Monday. In a snow, that would be about 5 inches of snow. But because of how cold it going to be, this will be a fluffier snow that could pile up with a 20 to 1 snow to rain ratio. So there the chance that the half inch of moisture could fluff into 10 inches of snow. Hopefully it won pile up quite that easily so for now we going with a pretty wide swath of 4 to 8 inches as shown below:
The accumulating snow is done and ourTuesday has been all about the wind blowing that snow around. Flurries could continue through the evening but our threat of accumulating snow is done. Now our attention turns to the cold air that the wind has brought in. Here a look at our wind chills Nike Tracksuit Amazon at 6 pm Tuesday:
A stronger area of low pressure will move into Siouxland this weekend with widepread snow likely. I will have blog on that to follow.
This whole system still has plenty of time to play out so you see things change some as the weekend goes along.
The thing to watch will be the wind. We could see gusts over 30 miles per hour so visibilities could very well be reduced through portions of the day on Friday. Saturday looks dry but Sunday and Monday could bring us more snow with the heaviest snow probably taking place in western Siouxland, but we keep an eye on that and keep you updated once things become clearer.
As for how much snow we see, it once again be a little heavier east of Sioux City where they could see an inch or two. Here in Sioux City, we more than likely keep our amounts under half an inch.
At 3 pm, the visibility in Estherville is below 1 mile so be careful out there! Much of the rest of the region is in a Wind Advisory until later this afternoon.
Please dress warm if you are going out today.
We expecting the wind chills to continue to be this cold or even colder and for that reason a Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for most of Siouxland until Wednesday morning.
A combination of light snow and very gusty winds have created reduced visibilities across parts of northwest Iowa. In fact, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the counties of Lyon, Osceola, Dickinson, O and Clay until 8 pm for those reduced visibilities.
of the area, less east, anda little more west. Monday in Sioux City, but starts 6 hours sooner out west. The snow will be light and continuous and winds should not be an issue with this one. If you have places to go, take it slow and you should be able to get around. Keep posted!
Sunday is looking like a snowy day Snow should begin during the morning and last through early Tuesday morning. We are looking at 6 10 across most Nike Orange Jacket
After 14.1 inches of snowfell on Sioux City, the trough is now starting to move east, but there is one catch. The winds and very cold temperatures. Siouxland is experiencing very cold temperatures, dangerous wind chills and blowing snow this morning. In the snapshot above, you can see the areas shaded in blue Nike Jacket Light
I sure you heard of the chances of snow coming our way from Sunday into Monday. This is going to be a slow developing, prolonged event that will have the chance of putting down some pretty good snowfall amounts.
Our weather is about to take a dramatic change today. The last few days we have enjoyed a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures reaching the mid 30 and 40 in some areas. A combination low pressure over the great lakes and a cold front moving through Siouxland today will generate winds gusting from the northwest to 55 mph in some areas. In the snapshot above, the areas shaded in blue are in a WIND ADVISORY until 4pm of Friday. A Wind Advisory means winds will occur from 30 to 39 mph with gusts from 45 57 mph. Gusts to 40 mph have already occured in Sioux City this morning. Hang on your hat folks, cause it going to be blustery!
