These numbers and forecasts can change as we see how much metling and how much rain comes our way in the coming days. Stay tuned to News Channel 4 and we keep you updated on the flooding situation.
I can help it, but we been in the 60s twice already this late winter, and I am ready for consistent spring weather! Honestly, this has NOT been a bad winter relatively speaking. My wife feels the same way, absolutely nothing in our adult lives compares to the winter of 2009 2010. We seen about 37 of snow this winter, but it was on the ground at most for about two months in a row. It was gone bymid February. Yes, things are definitely looking up in terms of getting some more spring weather in here after this latest little roller coaster. I am talking about an entire week of 50s and 60s. It will most likely happen for just a few hours on these Nike Hoodie Navy Blue
Also, the Vermillion River near Wakonda is likely near moderate stage right now.
warmer days as a few cold fronts cool us in the evenings to come, but if you can skip work early on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, you experience temperatures reminiscent of the middle of April. This upper level run for Wednesday as shown by our in house computer model shows a westerly to west southwesterly jet stream flow delivering mild Pacific air into the plains and keeps the Arctic air bottled up in Canada and beyond:
Spring fever about to run wild this week Dave Winslow
It worthy to note that moderate flooding is indicated along the Little Sioux River near Milford right now.
In any case, the fog and frost quickly melted away and now we can enjoy a week of mild temperatures.
The National Weather Service is calling what we saw a out. This basically means that the fog was producing precipitation literally on top of us (since fog is literally a cloud on the ground). This was very localized as I saw a few flurries at my north side home but nothing more. Other locations in Sioux City and South Sioux City did see full fledged light snow coming down.
There were a lot of areas across northern Iowa that saw decent snowfall accumulation as you can see on this graphic from the National Weather Service out of Des Moines:
Our morning meteorologist, Riley O to work in the middle of the night and he later told me that it was perfectly clear at that time. Suddenly on Monday morning, some dense fog rolled in and later it appeared light snow was suddenly falling. I say because there was nothing to be found on radar and there was nothing to indicate we should be seeing snow.
You can see that Akron is forecasted to experience major flooding, with moderate flooding expected in Hawarden.
If you weren wanting more snow, you have to love the way this last system moved farther to the east keeping us with only a trace of snow here in Sioux City. There were some heavier amounts just to our east as you can see here:
It is our first full day of the spring season and we will Tracksuit Nike Price enjoy spring like temperatures, however, there is cost involved. The potential for severe weather! An area of low pressure will be moving in from the southern Rockies with an associated warm front. Tuesday will also be a day to watch as an associated cold front will move through with this storm system possibly giving another say of severe thunderstorms with hail likely along with heavy rain. Area rivers are already at or aboveflood stages, so heavy rain may affect riversas thunderstorms are anticipated to move through the tri state.
The mild temperatures we have moving in are melting the snow pack to the north and the result is going to be a big increase in water levels on area rivers. A Flood Watch has been issued for several area rivers in the counties seen below:
The rivers in Siouxland include the Big Sioux River at Hawarden and Akron, the Little Sioux River at Linn Grove and Spencer, the Rock River at Rock Rapids, the Vermillion River near Wakonda, and the James River above Yankton. The Big Sioux River is set to see some of the biggest rises going from well below flood stage now, to flood stage early this weekend, then to its Nike Tech Fleece Windrunner White
crest next Tuesday.
We have started to see some improvements near Spencer and Linn Grove along the Little Sioux River, but our main concern has been the Big Sioux at Akron and Hawarden, and the James River at Yankton. River levels Nike Dri Fit Long Sleeve Red
have been in the moderate to major flood stage. As of 7am this morning, the James River at Yanktonwas at 21.82 ( major flood stage) and the Big Sioux at Akronwas at 19.66 ( modearate flood stage). Our weather will continue to stay unsettled for the next several days giving us the threat of showers/snow showers throughout Siouxland so stay tuned to News Channel 4 for all the latest river updates.
Let focus on the Big Sioux River at Akron and Hawarden. Those are the main spots of concern. Current values are the white text, while expected crests are in the red text.
It looking mild enough to get a few of us green thumb wonders digging around in the garden already. I just received a bare root D pear in the mail on Thursday, and the ground is thawed in front of my chimney so I went ahead and planted it. When I fill in during the summer I be sure to upload a picture to show you how you can espalier a pear tree to your house to make a warm mini climate for borderline plants. We also received a miniature Pixee peach tree that has pink flowers about to burst and bloom. It potted in the sun room of our house awaiting frost free weather. All of this talk reminds me need to get the tomato and pepper seedlings going soon! A job for tomorrow. Of course, remember as you read this post that you should not be planting anything outside for several weeks, if not months for most crops, and I tend to get ahead of myself a bit. I hope you have a great spring and look forward to returning as part of the Storm Team Four weather team on a fill in basis this summer.
