Get ready! As if we haven already seen it all this winter, we now going to be seeing an ice storm moving into Siouxland. The best chances of seeing freezing rain will be from midnight on through Wednesday. In fact, Sioux City and all the pink shaded counties that you see below are in an Ice Storm Warning. For Sioux City, this begins at midnight and goes until 9 pm Wednesday.
We might see another inch or two during the nighttime hours, but with the wind gusting from 30 to 40 miles per hour, most counties are under a Winter Storm Warning (the ones in purple below) with some of our western counties under a Blizzard Warning (the ones in orange).
Another 3 6 of snow followed by extreme cold and wind Dave Winslow
We been talking about it all week long, and the big one is almost here. You been hearing about the problems with mudslides and torrential rain in California, and that the one that will be hitting us Friday night Nike Gray Hoodie
Future Track as of 3 pm Wednesday:
This next episode of snow and cold will be yet another example of the harshness of January. The snow should begin tonight as an Alberta Clipper races in from the northwest. We probably have an inch or less on the ground by sunrise, but several more inches of snow will fall during the day.
Ice Coming Our Way by Ron Demers
The good news is that this storm system will bring a southeast wind, so it should be a little warmer finaly on Monday. This storm doesn look terribly aggressive or strong, but this computer model has been consistent in showing a tenth of an inch or so of moisture, which would translate to an inch or two of snow. Of course this storm is still a ways out, but it looks likely we see at least some light snow. It doesn appear to bring a huge Arctic outbreak of horrific winds, but we continue to track the snow possibilities with this system.
Snowfall forecast as the snow falls Dave Winslow
A couple inches to perhaps 4 or 5 inches of snow isn so bad, but 50 mph wind gusts are going to create a ground blizzard for NW Iowa. The National Weather Service has upgraded a winter weather advisory to a blizzard warning for a good part of the area. Visibilities will be 1/4 mile or less, winds gusting over 40 mph. Travel is Nike Hoodie Coat not advised in these conditions. The snow should taper off tonight by around midnight, but the winds will linger into Tuesday morning. Here the latest map of the advisories and warnings (teel is winter weather advisory, orange is blizzard warning):
Then get ready for the weekend because another part of this same storm system moves at us with a mix of precip beginning late Friday and lasting right on through Saturday and Sunday with rain and freezing rain eventually turning to all snow. Be careful out there!!
This upper level ridge may be replaced by yet another for the weekend, and our computer models are showing mainly mild weather hanging out for at least another week and a half. Our prospects for melting all of the snow in NW Iowa are slim, but we will at least shrink the snow piles down and probably see bare spots by the end of this January thaw.
Hello Pacific air! on melting potential Dave Winslow
Somelocations did it yesterday in Northeast Nebraska and South Dakota meltedsome snow! How about that for a newconcept when manyof us are completely out of room for storing snow. Highs on Sunday:
For the teal shaded counties it a Winter Weather Advisory in effect tonight and tomorrow. In areas west of Sioux City, we could see an inch or two of snow accumulate on top of the ice during the afternoon on Wednesday. In Sioux City, I don expect to see a lot of pure snow accumulate, but we could see some minor accumulations of sleet during the day Nike Jackets Black And Gold
on Wednesday. The orange shaded counties just to the south of the viewing area are under a Freezing Rain Advisory. Here a snapshot of what things could look like at 8 am Wednesday.
Messy Pacific Storm for the Weekend Dave Winslow
The piles of snow are as big as I ever seen, but they are going to groweven taller with more snow. Yet again, I am so happy to report an imminent warming trend for Sunday and next week.
It was actually warmer in SW Nebraska than it was in any location in Florida! This is due to a pattern change involving an upper level ridge of high pressure, and westerly flow coming down the Rockies as a or snow eating wind.
Blizzard Warning Issued for NW Iowa Dave Winslow
Your best bet is to give yourself extra time Wednesday because you never want to get in a rush when you dealing with freezing rain. The precipitation should taper off on Wednesday night and Thursday looks relatively quiet.
through the weekend. It does appear that there will be two rounds of precipitation. The first more significant one starts most likely Friday afternoon as either freezing rain or rain as temperatures shoot above freezing, that lasts into Friday night and Saturday. I feel that we should stay above freezing for the most part during that time period. Our computer models are actually showing some moderate to heavy rain potential too. It does get a little bit trickier Saturday evening and night as the atmosphere cools. The best snow potential will be for the northwest parts of the area, especially Northern Nebraska and the Dakotas. Here whatI mean futuretrack model at5 PM tomorrow:
to a dangerously cold Thursday morning and Friday. It appears likely that winds will gust to around 40 mph, and wind chill readings will be in the 35 to 45 range for several hours. The good news in all of this is that our computer models continue to strongly hint at some moderation for the weekend. In fact, some spots may see freezing to above freezing temperatures from Sunday into the middle part of next week.
The winds start to cause blowing and drifting problems by Wednesday evening, and this will lead Nike Sb Hoodie Green
It may be hard to believe, but these northwesterly winds are bringing us even colder air than what we have been experiencing. This will lead to a high of around 0 for Thursday, 5 for Friday, and a low by Saturday morning around 25. Hang in there, though, as warmer weather moves in starting Sunday.
