Now once I hit Alpe d'Huez I knew it was going to be crazy but it was even worse, and on several points it was downright scary ! Fans were really pushing the limit and being dangerous and I think my team car ran over 50 pairs of feet Crop Top Nike Jacket and probably hit another 50 with the mirror.
around and realized that Sylvain Chavanel, the best placed rider in the break, was like 35 minutes down and that they had nothing to worry about. Pretty soon we were gone.

And I just want to say one thing: Fans, please don't tap me on the shoulders! I don't know how many fans tapped me probably 200. And each time it is like I am getting slapped. Please feel free to yell and scream, but please don't tap me on the back. I'm in enough pain already!
But that worked perfectly for Christophe Riblon. He rode within himself all day and used his experience perfectly to win his second career stage in the Tour de France.
Tejay was definitely the strongest but he didn't use it well. He attacked early the first time up the Alpe, but didn't get a big gap. Did he really think he was going to solo for 70 kilometers ? He would have done better riding with the three of us that were close to him, knowing he would drop us on the final climb.
But I am sure it was spectacular for fans and television. I mean everything was there for an amazing bike race attacks from the start, attacks from the finish, amazing climbs, everything.
I would also like to say that even though I was in the front group today, in my opinion the Col de Sarenne is just the stupidest descent that I have done in my career. It is more or less a goat path. And even for the goats it is dangerous! You don't ride down that descent, you jump and bump down it.
Anyway, all in all that was one pretty amazing day. And with that, my friends, I can pretty much say goodbye to the Alpe d'Huez, at least as a rider. I don't know when we will return but I will likely be in a team car or a VIP car, or just sitting on the side of the road!
You know, at times I was wondering, "Why did I do this to myself? Why did I get in this breakaway with two climbs up Alpe d'Huez awaiting me?"
At one point I came by him on the descent I think he had a mechanical but when he came back, he just blew by me. Again I think we would have both saved energy working together.
There were attacks from the start and we were really going hard on the first climb. I made it over the climb in about 30th position and immediately saw this group forming and said to myself, "Hey, we need somebody in there!" I think I was the last guy to jump across along with Tejay van Garderen.
Now I died a million deaths the second time up the Alpe. I was close to van Garderen, Moser, and Riblon at the foot, but oh man, I just ran out of gas. I was so dead! But I sure didn't think that those guys would stay away.
